Summary: "Dirty" Harry Callahan (Clint Eastwood) tries to track down a killer murdering a group of men whom raped her years before.

Review:

Tim: After a long absence, Harry Callahan is back- older, meaner, and dirtier. What a film for Dirty Harry to come back to- it sparked the "Go ahead, make my day" craze in the U.S. This film is much better than the previous two films. The biggest thing holding it back is the dialogue, of all things. This was not a problem at all in the first three films, and it mysteriously creeps into this one. The film tries too hard to have "cool" and "funny" lines, and some of the dialogue is absolutely atrocious.

What I love about this movie is when Harry is supposed to be taking a vacation, and bad guys keep coming after him and ending up dead. Hilarious.

In this film, Harry searches for a killer murdering the absolute scum of society. This might sound a lot like Magnum Force, but trust me, it is not.

Clint Eastwood is definitely aging here, but he is no less effective as his stubborn old cop. Callahan just gets better with age.

Some interesting additions to the film- Harry gets a dog and seems to fall for a girl, resulting in an un-Harry like action. Fortunately, the character remains true to his roots. If Sudden Impact fixed its dialogue problem, it could have positioned itself very close to the original, Dirty Harry.
