Review:

Tim: First off, apparently, this movie is technically called, Scary MoVie, which the "V" representing the Roman numeral five. Wow, how clever, how original, how moronic. I absolutely hate this stupid practice, and it angers me to no extent. If that was really the name of the movie, we'd have to pronounce this film "Scary Mo-Five-ie" That's asinine and ridiculous, and I refuse to acknowledge this practice. So, I'm calling this film Scary Movie V, which is also stupid because the other four films don't use Roman numerals, but what I am I supposed to do?

Okay, rant over. Now let's get into this film. When I reviewed Scary Movie 4, I said that the biggest thing this franchise had going for it was the continued presence of Anna Faris as Cindy. Unfortunately, with this, the fifth film, we lose Faris and replace her with Ashley Tisdale. Faris isn't a brilliant actor, but she's light years better than Tisdale. This represents a major downgrade in quality for this film. Tisdale wasn't horrible, but she wasn't very good, either. I will say that I thought the film did a better job than expected about continuing the franchise without it's biggest star. While Simon Rex is a poor actor, at least he offers some continuation of the franchise. While Faris is a big loss, it wasn't as bad as it might have been.

The film doesn't have a whole lot going for it. There was a much publicized scene early on between Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan. Apparently, Sheen is just playing himself, not the character he's played in the last two Scary Movie installments. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but what does in this terrible franchise? The scene wasn't very interesting and it offers a very little impact on the overall film.

I don't have a whole lot to say about this film. It follows the same formula as all the others movies- lots of spoof scenes clinging together with the thinnest thread of a weak story. I felt like maybe more than the previous films, this one was really scraping together lackluster films to spoof. There were a few I had not seen, which rarely happened in this franchise previously. Like the other films, I watched, not being entertained, not caring about anything I saw on screen. This is really just not a very good movie at all. I might have smiled once or twice, but I don't recall laughing.

Look, I know I've been calling for the end of the Scary Movie franchise since almost the beginning, and it's continued despite my protests. I just feel at this point, it's time to move on. You lost Anna Faris, the franchise as a whole just feels like it's running on fumes, and this installment was worse than the last two. This has been one of the worst franchises of all time, if you look at the quality of the films from start to finish. I really hope this is the last movie, because I'm just getting tired of these films.
