Summary: Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) is a headstrong woman, whom, when she meets Mr. Darcy (Matthew Macfadyen) cannot stand him. However, as the two continue to reluctantly meet each other at social events, she begins to realize perhaps her own pride and prejudice have prevented her from seeing something more in him.

Review:

Tim: Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice is an excellent book and it has been made into several good movies. The question is, did we really need another? Perhaps not, but this is a surprisingly well made film. The cast is very good, the film is entertaining, and we enjoy seeing good actors playing great characters.

Keira Knightley makes an outstanding Elizabeth. Her acting has been suspect in previous films, but here, she is at the top of her game, giving a wonderful performance. Matthew Macfadyen makes a surprisingly good Mr. Darcy, and he and Knightley interact very well. These two make this film a success. Donal Sutherland, Judi Dench, and Jena Malone add in good supporting performances to adequately round out the cast.

Austen's book is a timeless classic, and truly one of the best I have read. This movie is an excellent adaptation of it, as one of the greatest love stories of all time comes to life once again on the big screen. Some of the appeal of this film comes from the fact that this is a love story that appeals to all demographics- men as well as women. This cross-appeal makes it the perfect movie for couples to watch together.

Pride & Prejudice is a very good movie. It excellently adapts Austen's classic novel. It assembles a very good cast, with Knightley and Macfadyen giving career-defining performances. It is directed effectively by Joe Wright. This is a very entertaining movie. It you're unfamiliar with Austen's best work, see this movie, or better yet, read the book. This is a really good movie, and a film that is very much worth your time and energy.
