Review:

Tim: Save for a pretty impressive battle on the side of a mountain hanging on by ropes, this is a completely forgettable movie. There is some decent action, but mostly, the film recycles from other films and doesn't have the guts to offer us anything particularly new. There was a time in my life, when I was much younger, when any amount of interesting violence and action would keep me entertained and enjoying the movie. Those days are long gone. I saw almost no effort put into this movie. It feels lazy, uninspired, and simply a rehashing of what we have seen a million times before.

I sincerely like Viking movies, and I feel as if too few of them are made. However, when done as poorly as this, I understand why they aren't rolled out of Hollywood continuously. I love action, but not when it takes a backseat to everything else. Instead of developing characters and creating a little bit of drama, every scene without action feels as if its sole purpose is to eat up some time and allow our characters to take a breath as it moves them toward the next big action scene. That seems to be the movie's only purpose-action, and when there's not action, moving us toward the next action scene.

Karl Urban is decent as the hero. He makes for a fearsome enough warrior. Moon Bloodgood is surprisingly effective as his love interest. The rest of the cast is decent, but everyone seemed as if they were sleepwalking through their roles at one point or another.

Pathfinder is an ineffective, mostly harmless mistake. It does nothing very well, and besides the mountainside battle, there's very little to get excited about, to remember, or even to care about. This is a bad movie, and I hope it slips from the collective conscious as soon as possible.
