Review:

Tim: I did have reservations about seeing a film in Mandarin with English subtitles. I was a bit turned off by the idea of having to read for two hours, afraid I’d miss some of the action. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised that the subtitles did not interfer with the movie at all, rather, improved the viewing by making you focus more into the film.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is indeed an epic masterpiece. This film contains some of, if not the most incredible action scenes ever filmed. Watching the fighting scenes is like watching a work of art- I was entralled in the lightning quick combat scenes. This film would have worked if it based everything on the fighting scenes- but I am happy to say that it did not. Rather, the dramatic storyline is so amazing that it draws you in. This marriage of drama and action works wonderfully, as Ang Lee paints an amazing picture.

All of the actors in the film did excellent, excellent jobs. This film is a masterpiece, and I wholeheartedly recommed seeing it. I believe it is well worth it’s Oscar nominations and wins. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is one of the rare gems that comes along every so often. This film will please everyone- with its intense drama, suspenseful storyline, and lastly, with the most mind boggling fighting scenes I have ever seen. This film is complete from beginning to end, and screams to be watching over and over. I, for one, will be happy to oblige.
