Review:

Tim: I was surprised to hear that Vin Diesel directed a short film set in the Fast and the Furious franchise, serving as a bridge between the earlier films and the fourth film in the franchise. I think this is a really cool idea and I wish more franchises would do this. In short, I was certainly looking forward to this film.

Unfortunately, this isn't a great movie. In fact, I had a hard time getting interested in it at all. Part of this is due to the direction of Vin Diesel, which I have to admit I didn't get. A lot of this is because of his directorial style, which seemed a bit amateurish. There was just nothing in the style that drew you into the film. The cinematography was average. The whole thing felt rushed and as if no one really cared too much about the end product.

The other issue I had was the story. I get that it's setting up the next film in the franchise, but it wasn't compelling in the least. It's only 18 minutes long, but I was really glad when it was over. I was bored.

Now, I suppose this movie isn't all bad. The reason it exists is to serve as a bridge to the fourth film, and it does accomplish that. It sets up the action that will take place in the movie and fills in a few of the blanks. In that sense, this movie is a success. Unfortunately, movies (even short films) are supposed to entertain, and Los Bandoleros comes up way short in that regard.
